Ammar filmfest to screen Iran's documentary 'The Last Supper'

Iranian documentary 'The Last Supper' has been set to take part at the 9th edition of the Ammar International Popular Film Festival in Iran.

Directed by Mohammad Qane-Fard, the 68-minute film is about the lives of Muslims and Christians in Syria.

The filmmaker said the idea of making the documentary came from his decision to depict the living situation of Christians in Syria following the outbreak of a foreign-backed crisis in Syria in 2011.

He added that the documentary is based on the abduction of 12 nuns by the Takfiri terrorists from one of the churches in the ancient town of Maaloula, close to the capital Damascus, where Muslims and Christians live together in peace.  

The film has won several awards from international film festivals, including the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival in India.

The Ammar Popular Film Festival goes against the promotion of “individualism and extreme enjoyment without caring about the society's troubles and other human suppression,” the event’s official website noted.

The festival aims “to raise real awareness and responsibility among the general public,” the AIPFF website said, adding that the event’s mission is to create an atmosphere in which independent filmmakers and thinkers can gather together.

The 9th edition of the festival is set to kick off in Tehran on December 27 and will run until January 6, 2019.
